Self Care Plan
Since we’re talking about being cancelled, I thought maybe we would talk about the self-care of cancelling plans. Because, cancelling plans to do knit or binge watch Bridgerton or do absolutely nothing is absolutely self care. But let’s not be a dick when we do it.
- Be upfront. “Do you mind rescheduling dinner tonight?” or “Will you forgive me if I bail on brunch this weekend?” Be honest about your needs and let them know as soon as possible. “You know I love you but right now I just need to be in my pajamas in front of the T.V right now.” If it’s someone you’re close with, they’ll get it. Just like Kelly Loeffler got COVID.
- Don’t overdo the apology. Once is enough. You’re cancelling plans, not inciting a violent overthrow of democracy.
- Don’t make it habit. It’s alright to cancel plans once in a while, but, if it’s becoming a regular occurrence, maybe you need to look at why. Are you constantly overcommitting? Struggling to cope with your social life? Or are you plotting to destroy the nuclear family? Either way, make the changes you need so you can bail responsibly.
